
ABOUT ATTORNEY RICHARD FINE
Richard began his legal career in a clerkship for President Judge Joseph Sloane in Philadelphia County. He then entered private practice in Pennsylvania state courts and the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, where he has decades of experience, successfully litigating and resolving hundreds of jury trials, bench trials, mediations, and arbitrations. He has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Richard was appointed by Chief Judge Sylvia H. Rambo of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of PA to serve as one of the original mediators under the Civil Justice Reform Act of 1990. President Judge Chester T. Harhut appointed him as mediator for the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County.
Richard accepts court appointments as a mediator and/or arbitrator for National Arbitration and Mediation, Resolute Systems, Inc., and The Peacemakers. He also serves as a Judge and Mentor for students involved in the Negotiation Marathon at Penn State Dickinson School of Law. He has an “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
He was the managing partner of Fine and Wyatt, PC, a law firm based in Scranton and Honesdale, Pennsylvania. The firm was founded in 1928 by Richard’s father, Attorney Louis A. Fine.
Richard has served as a board member of the Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Federation, the Community Medical Center, Temple Hesed, and Allied Services; a trustee of Webster Towers; and a member of the advisory board at Mellon Bank. He completed two three-year terms on the Hearing Committee of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He has lectured for the Lackawanna Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. In addition, he was a founding member of the Harmonie Group.
A Scranton native, Richard and his wife reside in Clarks Summit, PA.
